Oboist Caroline Giassi’s interest in outreach teaching began in high school when she worked as sailing instructor with students from underserved communities in East Harlem. When not on the water, she would sit at the piano in the cafeteria and give short demonstrations to campers, some of whom returned during the following summers to share that they had signed up for music lessons at their schools. Caroline continued teaching during her master’s degree at the Yale School of Music by working through Yale’s "Music in Schools Initiative" to give private lessons to students in the New Haven public schools system. Caroline remained committed the ideal that students of all backgrounds deserve access to music education upon her return to her native New York City to attend The Juilliard School’s Historical Performance program. While at Julliard, she received a Morse Teaching Artist Fellowship and upon graduating, was invited by her recorder teacher, Nina Stern, to join the S’Cool Sounds team.
Besides teaching, Caroline is an active freelancer specializing in historical oboes. She has performed with William Christie and Les Arts Florissants, Philharmonia Baroque, Trinity Wall Street Baroque Orchestra, The Sebastians, New York Baroque Inc., Pegasus Early Music, and 4x4 Baroque and is a fellow with The English Concert in America.
