S’Cool Sounds is a New York-based non-profit organization whose mission is to promote communication, mutual respect, and global awareness through musical training for children who lack access to arts education. Since its founding by recorder virtuoso Nina Stern in 2002, S’Cool Sounds (SCS) has reached thousands of children and their parents around the world through classroom instruction, after school programs, workshops and community events. S’Cool Sounds maintains ongoing relationships with several New York City schools and partnerships with schools and community centers abroad.
The Deputy Director reports to the Artistic Director, Nina Stern and is assisted by the Finance Manager and Partnership Manager.
The Deputy Director (DD) will be responsible for assisting the Artistic Director in all aspects of S’Cool Sounds operations. The DD will be dedicated to S’Cool Sounds mission and will, together with the Artistic Director, ensure that S’Cool Sounds programs are consistently effective and running smoothly.
Manage SCS school programming grant portfolio (3-8 grants annually), including applications, award management, and reporting
Assisting AD with creating language for international and community programming applications
Seek out additional foundation, government, and/or corporate funding sources
Help to cultivate and develop individual donors, including planning 1-2 fundraising events annually
Department of Education
Manage MTAC (Multiple Task Award Contract) process and requirements
Create Letters of Agreement, Work-Orders, and Invoices, with contracted public schools
Ensure completion of payment schedule
Assist Artistic Director with maintaining Blueprint and NYS music education standards alignment
Create and implement systems for regular communication between SCS and public school contacts
Assist with expansion of and oversee implementation of SCS programming assessments
Track and organize documentation, such as: pictures; videos; pre & post project surveys from Teaching Artists, teachers and students; post-residency and Teaching Artist self-assessments.
Teaching Artists Relations
Manage teaching artist letters of agreement
Schedule bi-annual meetings between teaching artists and SCS administration.
Schedule bi-annual training sessions
Assist AD with creation of organization budget
Assist AD with creation of program budgets
Track and maintain select budgets, and provide Quarterly year-to-date reporting
The ideal candidate will be dedicated to S’Cool Sounds mission of providing musical training to children who lack access to arts education. They will be reliable and ready to take initiative. A music background is preferred.
They must have strong management, communication, and writing skills, as well as previous experience or demonstrated knowledge in fundraising and grants management as well as arts education or arts administration. Proficiency required in Microsoft and Adobe applications or an equivalent software platform. Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of the New York City Department of Education a plus.
This is a part-time position with a 10-15 hour work week.
