MEGAN HURLEY
Megan Hurley is a French Hornist based in New York, known for her versatility as a freelancer and brass pedagogue.
Megan is a dedicated and spirited educator who brings a deep love of music to her teaching. She is the French Horn and Trumpet Instructor at Musart Music and serves as the Woodwinds & Brass Sectional Coach for the Harmony Program’s three youth orchestras. With years of experience guiding students toward discovering their unique musical voice, Megan helps budding musicians build confidence through instrumental mastery. She has taught students of all ages and ability levels, including neurodivergent and differently abled populations. Her infectious enthusiasm and extensive expertise in brass performance inspire a lasting passion for music in her students, while also cultivating strong technical foundations.
Megan holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, and began an Artist Diploma at the Curtis Institute of Music which was interrupted by her appointment to The Phoenix Symphony. She is an avid amateur dog trainer and loves rock climbing, hiking, and traveling the world in her spare time!
With a career that spans both national and international stages, she has held one-year positions with prestigious ensembles like the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Phoenix Symphony, and the Sarajevska Filharmonia. Megan also substitutes on Broadway and performs with renowned orchestras and opera companies such as the Metropolitan Opera and Washington National Opera.
As a specialist of Baroque and Classical horn, Megan frequently performs with period ensembles such as the Smithsonian Academy Orchestra and Staunton Music Festival. This year she will also make appearances with Harmonia Stellarum and the Sebastians as a historical horn player.
