Expanding Our Impact In Kenya
As announced earlier this month, we are currently working on expanding our Kenya programs beyond Nairobi, starting with Diani on the Indian Ocean coast.
To kickstart this exciting effort, S'Cool Sounds Artistic Director Nina Stern and board member Nancy Jo Snider are traveling to Kenya and, along with Kenya Advisory Board member Karimi Wandiri, will be teaching workshops, collaborating with local musicians, and networking with strategic partners.
To support this initiative, we have set a fundraising goal of $5,000. Your contribution today will help fund new instruments, new performance attire, and new programming to reach even more students. Thank you for helping us expand our impact in Kenya!
In Kibera, students have been hard at work preparing their video contribution to the 2025 Boston Early Music Festival: Beyond Borders. Check out these photos of their recent rehearsals!

SHOUT-OUT TO TEACHING ARTIST, HERY PAZ!
Back in New York, our top-notch Teaching Artists (TAs) continue to make headlines. One of our longtime TAs, Hery Paz, is in the band for Buena Vista Social Club, currently on Broadway. This year, the band is being recognized with a prestigious Special Tony Award!
Not only does Hery teach in school residencies, he also often plays Alegría Musical school assemblies with a band of other SCS TAs. We are thrilled to bring award-winning talent like Hery to the students of New York City!
Born in Cuba, Hery is a saxophonist, composer, and educator. He has won the acclaim and respect of legendary jazz musicians such as Fred Hersch, who called him "... a revelation, a musician of extraordinary strength." Hery is an integral element of the creative music scene in New York City, where he has worked with artists such as Francisco Mela, Ralph Alessi, and many more.
