RECORDERS WITHOUT BORDERS ONLINE AND IN THE CLASSROOM

Recorders are back! Our most popular course, Recorders Without Borders, is back in the classroom and now available on our free online Learning Resources site.

During the core of the pandemic, online learning was the sole reality for our students just as it was for most of us. SCS took on this challenge and evolved. We developed a strong digital presence that included video content both informative and fun, sustaining S’Cool Sounds in a new reality. Now that students are back in the classroom, with online learning here to stay, we have continued in this effort and then some – developing a free and online Learning Resources site for students, families, and educators alike.

In Recorders Without Borders, students learn how to play the recorder - focusing on sound production, articulation, fingerings - while “traveling the world” through the exploration of music from different cultures. Young musicians also use body percussion, rhythm exercises, and other interactive musical activities to develop general music skills.

Written by SCS Founder and Artistic Director Nina Stern, Recorders Without Borders is taught to in-person residencies in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn, teaching over 500 students. Our online course, developed by Nina, Program Development Associate Evan Harris, and SCS Teaching Artist Ruaridh Pattison, includes fun videos featuring Mr. Ru and original material for students, families, and educators of all backgrounds to utilize.
