SCS Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week
National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4–8! S’Cool Sounds (SCS) extends its gratitude to teachers and teaching artists whose work inspires and empowers students to learn, engage, and grow their senses of self through music-making.
First established by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1953 and later expanded by the National Education Association (NEA), National Teacher Appreciation Week reminds us to celebrate the incredible work and dedication of teachers around the country.
As part of our recognition of teachers and teaching artists, this week, we’d like to highlight the work of SCS Teaching Artist Berta Moreno. Watch a compilation of songs performed during the new SCS assembly, Queens of Sound, created by Berta and her band.
The program highlights trailblazing female musicians, including Aretha Franklin, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Totó La Momposina, Tania Maria, Celia Cruz, and Miriam Makeba, and explores the impact of women’s music history.
Your generosity makes it possible for us to support teachers and teaching artists by developing music curriculum and residencies that bring hands-on learning opportunities to students, including the expansion of our free online learning resources for teachers. Please consider donating today!
