Celebrating Our Creative Partnerships
Since 2002, S’Cool Sounds (SCS) has brought the joy and power of music-making to thousands of students—unlocking creative potential, empowering teaching artists, and bringing communities together through rhythm and song.
Thanks to your generosity, our reach is growing faster than ever.
With donor support, specialized grants, and creative partnerships, we’ve expanded residencies and school assemblies, grown our team of teaching artists, and built a free Learning Resources website that helps teachers everywhere bring music into their classrooms.
Today, we’re proud to serve 26 NYC public and charter schools, including free pilot programs for schools without music budgets.
Here’s a glimpse of the creative partnerships that are expanding our reach and helping us develop new curricula, new approaches, and new paths as an organization:
NYC Council grants through Council Member Hudson’s office (District 35) fund our in-school residences at PS 56 (Brooklyn) for PreK-5 students and free after-school programs.
Arts for Diverse Learners Grants (through the NYC Public Schools Arts Office) allow us to engage multilingual learners and students with disabilities in partnership with schools in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Collaborating with the NYC Public Schools Arts Office, SCS teaching artists have led eight professional development workshops equipping public school music teachers across the City with new tools, approaches, and technical expertise.
In partnership with “47” The American Sign Language and English Secondary School, the Shirley Aninias School, and ASD Horizons teachers at a public school in Brooklyn, SCS is designing adaptive, inclusive, and joyful music experiences for all learners.
SCS teaching artists train museum educators at the Staten Island Children’s Museum to lead global percussion workshops engaging their young visitors in musical learning on school closure days.
In partnership with Breaking Ground, a nonprofit serving formerly unhoused adults, SCS creates and leads musical ensembles for residents at supportive housing residences in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx.
Your gift will help us continue to reach more students, forge new partnerships, and make music accessible for everyone.
S’Cool Sounds is making exciting progress toward our $50,000 challenge grant!
Your gift brings us one step closer to unlocking the full impact of this challenge grant and amplifying music-learning experience for thousands of students.
COLLABORATION HIGHLIGHT
We’re Featured in Edutopia!
We’re thrilled to celebrate a proud milestone for S’Cool Sounds. An article co-written by our Artistic Director, Nina Stern, and Digital Learning Specialist JoDee Scissors titled “Discovering Global Sounds Through the Recorder” was published by Edutopia and featured in its weekly outreach email. Edutopia is a nationally respected platform that reaches millions of PreK-12 teachers, school leaders, and caregivers each month. Our piece highlights how music teachers can use the recorder to explore musical traditions from around the world, sparking students’ curiosity while building cultural understanding and community. We’re grateful to see this work reaching a wider network of educators and inspiring globally minded music classrooms.
